Got Rosacea? Different Types and How the Condition Can Be Treated

Beauty & Fashion Blog

Rosacea is a skin condition that looks like small pimples, and if you have it, your face will look flushed and have redness. If you have this problem, a dermatologist can treat it in different ways. Below are some different types of rosacea and the different types of treatments you can get.

Types of Rosacea

There are different types of rosacea including:

  • Facial flushing, redness, and blood vessels on your face
  • Acne breakouts and sensitive skin
  • Fluid retention and swelling of the face
  • Ocular rosacea, which is rosacea around your eyes

You may have more than one type of rosacea, and your doctor will examine your skin and your eyes to help them determine the exact type you have. Your doctor will also talk to you about your lifestyle, your medical history, your diet, and whether anyone in your family has problems with rosacea.

If the dermatologist finds that you have ocular rosacea, they will recommend that you see your eye doctor for treatment. This will also prevent you from having vision problems in the future. The eye doctor may give you medication if the redness spreads to your eyelids, as well as eye drops.

Rosacea Treatment

Your dermatologist can treat rosacea in different ways. They may first do an allergy test to help you determine whether something you are eating is causing this problem. There are also medications, both oral and skin creams, they can give you. If your skin is infected, you will be prescribed antibiotics. The doctor will tell you to wear sunscreen when you are going outside to prevent flare-ups and redness.

There are skin treatments the doctor can use. One type is dermabrasion, which is using an instrument to exfoliate and remove the top layer of your skin. This process can also remove acne scars, sun damage, uneven texture, and fine lines.

Laser skin resurfacing can also be used. The dermatologist will use a special laser directed at different areas of your face to remove the skin one layer at a time until the doctor reaches a healthy layer. Another type of light therapy is known as electrocautery. With this therapy, the doctor will use electricity to heat your facial tissue to remove broken capillaries as well as to help prevent infection on your face.

The type of treatment your dermatologist will give you depends on the type of rosacea symptoms you have. A dermatologist, such as one from Center Of Dermatology PC/Herschel E Stoller MD, can go over these different treatments with you in much more detail.
